While staying home and staying healthy; self-report for the 2020 Census

Hope everyone had a happy and safe Easter weekend. While it was difficult to stay home during these times typically spent celebrating together in large gatherings, we managed to adapt still find joy! There were many video chat gatherings and phone calls across the world that joined people together, and for many, they found a silver lining in escaping traffic jams and preparation stress too.

According to the April 12th data, Grant County Health District has confirmed 4 cases in the Soap Lake area and 120 cases in the county, and still urges everyone to follow the ‘Stay home- Stay healthy’ order of the governor. In addition to being closed to the public, City Hall has stopped taking cash payments and asks for bills be paid with money orders or pre-paid credit cards and left in the drop box. Our temporary City Hall doesn’t have running water needed for proper sanitization required for money interactions. Money orders can be acquired at the post office. Online and phone payments are still encouraged. If you’re available to help the most at risk community members or need help for yourself or a loved one, check out the new group Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

While you are staying home calling friends, reading, watching movies, playing games, or learning something new, don’t forget about the 2020 Census. For those with a competitive nature, you can check out how our community response is comparing to others across the U.S. by following this link. At only 2.9% reporting from Soap Lake (on April 13th), we can do so much better. When on the phone or in a video chat, remind your neighbors to self respond to the Census online before May 1st!
