The fire hydrant issue has been fixed and water has been turned back on. The water main in the area was flushed with chlorine added. Residents in the east part of town may smell residual chlorine from their water for a short while. It’s recommended to flush your water lines of any air or stirred up sediments from a hose or tub faucet. Thank you to the work crews that jumped on task to quickly fix this, and thank you for the community’s patience and understanding.

In order to fix a fire hydrant break, the City has to make an emergency water shut off to fix the leak and replace the hydrant. To isolate the fire hydrant, there is an area near Fern N, 1st NE to 4th NE that is impacted by the water shut off. There is no issue of contamination with the break, though it is advised to flush your water at a tub or hose bib once the water is turned back on.
The contractors work crews and the City public work employees are on site to get this fixed as quickly as possible. Currently, it is an estimated 2 hours until the water is turned back on. Please give the contractors and public work crews your support by letting them work uninterrupted, as this will expedite the repair process.
