Creative District Introductory Meeting Update
The Creative District introductory meeting held on Thursday January 5th was well attended with 40 people present. Mayor Pro-tem Leslie Taylor, ED Committee Chair Alex Kovach, and ED Committee Member Kayleen Bryson made introductions and presided over the meeting. An overview of the Washington State's Creative District Program was presented and special guest Dollie Boyd, Moses Lake Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Services Director, shared the City of Moses Lake recent experience with establishing a Creative District in their downtown business corridor. Shawn Cardwell, Executive Director of Columbia Basin Allied Arts and co-chair of the ML Creative District was also present and answering questions about the Moses Lake experience.
The Economic Development (ED) Committee is collecting public comment via a survey which is available at the SL Public Library, as well as various downtown businesses. A copy may also be downloaded and printed at home by clicking HERE. The ED Committee asks that all surveys be returned to the City by January 27th. Surveys may be returned at the drive-up, utility payment, drop box in front of City Hall. Survey results will be compiled and presented at the Council Meeting immediately following January 27th, and a vote taken to determine if the City will move forward with pursuing establishment of a Creative District in the City of Soap Lake.
Special thanks to all of those who presided over the meeting and to those who attended and joined in the discussion. For more information and a copy of the survey, please see below:
