(UPDATE: July 3rd, 2021)
The City’s second well is back online and all systems are running normal again. The extreme heat took its toll on a pressure switch and caused it to fail. Thank you to Public Works for manually maintaining the reservoir levels, troubleshooting the error, and coordinating repairs with the technician into the weekend.
Have a Happy Independence Day!
(ORIGINAL POST: July 1st, 2021)
Notice: One of the City’s two water wells is currently not functioning. The City is investigating the well pump telemetry to troubleshoot the problem. This requires bringing in a technician and could take a couple days of testing and calibrating. With the telemetry down, Public Works staff has to carefully monitor and manually make adjustments to the remaining well pump to keep the City reservoirs full. While the City is able to maintain regular water service, this temporary loss of redundancy is a point of concern.
Since we have made it through the hottest part of this heat wave, as a precaution through the 4th of July weekend, please conserve water where possible. Prioritize water use for health, sanitation, and fire suppression.
The combination of the heat wave, the offline well, and 4th of July celebrations does increase fire risk to the community. Please do your part to help bring the heightened fire risk back to standard levels by being extra cautious. Remind visitors and neighbors that use of fireworks is only allowed at the designated Smokiam Park areas and times, and safety measures in place by firefighters and law enforcement must be followed (see below). Also, refrain from any activities that may ignite sparks, fire, or create hot elements near combustibles like grasses, weeds, sagebrush, wood piles, trees, sheds, etc. By avoiding situations where accidents can happen will bring fire risk back down.
Thank you for your raised caution and understanding. Please be safe and responsible while celebrating with friends and family this Independence Day Weekend!
